I was in NYC last weekend, and spotted this grimy Mazda CX-7 down by the South Street Seaport. By the looks of things, it’s been abandoned for about 2-3 years. The registration stickers say 2014, most of the air has seeped out of the tires, and even the messages scrawled in the dust date back to 2014. Naturally, it’s booted, too.
I’m surprised that a car can sit abandoned in one of the busiest cities in the world for that long without being (A) towed, or (B) vandalized. How has it sat there for so long like this?

I’m extra surprised that those luggage rack protector things are still up there. You could take them off in a matter of seconds, and they probably would pawn for at least $5-10.

I’ve always wondered this, too. Who just leaves a decent car sitting there? I always assume someone either faked their own death or actually died.

There was an abandoned car on Jewel Avenue near Queens College for a very long time... every panel gap on the car was filled with parking tickets. Go figure.

I’m amazed there isn’t a phallus on this. It’s honestly the first thing my buddy draws on, well, anything.
His predictability caught up to him when another friend was doing a long exposure shot for light painting and asked us to draw. Buddy draws a penis, I drew an arrow and lit him up. Image was fantastic.

Is that a Rhode Island plate? Maybe it's stolen and the NYPD just don't feel like dealing with calling RI?

That is odd it hasn’t been towed or stolen... Write something about Trump on it, it’s like a time capsule. I wrote shit parking on the window of a car near me this morning, it never moves and it’s far from the curb.

Crackies don’t think well, I saw a shop vac totally ripped apart near a bus stop the other day, was the logic that this things sucks stuff up and must have sucked up some good stuff?

It’s a Mazda CX-7, I bet the engine siezed or the transmission took a crap just after it was out of warranty.

That is definitely a RI plate.

Yep. The CX-7 only came with the 2.3 Turbo (same motor as the MazdaSpeed 3) until its later years of 2010 on, when you could also get the 2.5 N/A four-cylinder in base models.

The 2.3 Turbo is quite a finicky motor. Most SUV drivers liked the looks and drive of the CX-7 but didn't realize what they were signing themselves up for motor-wise.

Let’s just say there’s probably a reason this CX-7 is parked...

Great engine in a compact car like the Mazda 3, probably a bit stressed in an SUV driven by a soccer mom who forgets about the simple things like maintenance.

parking lot owner is waiting on the title to come through, by way of storage lien...... so he’s been watching it.
